Change the device address

The device address is the physical location of Google Home or Google Home Mini. This may not be the same address as your work and home locations.

When asking for local places, weather, and time information, this device address is used as the default location unless you specify another place/weather/time. Ex. "What's the weather in <Chicago>".

Change the device address of Google Home devices

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. In the top left corner of the app's Home screen, tap Menu Menu.
  4. Verify that the Google Account listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.
  5. Tap More settings. 
  6. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home device and then Device address.
  7. Type in the address and then OK. You can edit or delete this address at any time.
