Create and manage shortcut commands
Shortcuts let you create faster, easier ways to do your favorite things with your Google Assistant.
Create a shortcut
- Open the Google Home app
.
- In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu
.
- Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
- Tap More settings

- For “When I say Ok Google…”
- Type the phrase you want to say to trigger the shortcut or tap the microphone
and speak it.
- For “Google Assistant should do,”
- Type what you want to happen or tap the microphone
and speak it. Important: You must structure the this phrase like a supported voice command.
- Tap Save.
Example: “When I say OK Google…” <workout time>, the Google Assistant should <Play workout music on Google Play Music>.
Use a shortcut
Simply say “Hey Google, <shortcut>” and your Assistant will respond. Here's how to browse your existing shortcuts.

To manage shortcuts,
